The humanitarian pause in Aleppo came into effect at 8 a.m. on Oct. 20

The humanitarian pause in Aleppo has been extended by one day, it will be in force from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 22, Head of the Main Operations Directorate at Russia’s General Staff, Sergei Rudskoi, told reporters on Oct. 21.

"Under instructions from the Russian president, the humanitarian pause in the Aleppo area will be extended by 24 hours - from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 22," he said.

The Russian Defense Ministry hopes that all parties concerned will influence gunmen to rescue civilians in eastern Aleppo who are "actually held hostage by terrorists," Rudskoi added.

The humanitarian pause in Aleppo came into effect at 8 a.m. on Oct. 20. The Russian and Syrian militaries stopped fire to let civilians and gunmen leave the city. It was planned that the pause would last until 7 p.m. of the same day, but under instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin it was extended by 24 hours.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said that Russia could break the humanitarian pause in Aleppo, if the situation there deteriorates.
