Russian and Belarusian paratroops hold drills in central Russia

Maneuvers involved 600 paratroopers, 30 armored vehicles, 6 Il-76 jets

A combined tactical exercise involving Russian and Belarusian Airborne Force units has been completed in the Ryazan Region in central Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press office said.

The maneuvers involved 600 paratroopers, more than 30 armored vehicles, 10 army planes and six Ilyushin Il-76 (NATO reporting name: Candid) military transport aircraft.

According to the press office, the servicemen "practiced airdropping and held live-firing exercises with the use of organic weapons operational with Russian and Belarusian Airborne Force units."

The troops also practiced cohesion to accomplish a special task within a peacekeeping grouping in an area of an armed conflict.

As the press office said, the exercise was "the so-called final examination for the Union State’s paratroops" and crowned a number of the combined maneuvers of the Russian and Belarusian airborne forces, which had been included in the Russian Defense Ministry international activity program for 2016.
