The Federal Security Service (FSB) detained two Russian nationals, who organized illegal crossing of the border with Finland, FSB’s PR Center said on Nov. 11.

"The FSB department in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region with support from the border control on Nov. 7 detained two Russian nationals as they attempted organization of illegal crossing of the border for a group of 16 foreigners," the security service said, adding the foreigners are citizens of Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Tanzania, Ghana and Congo, including children and one pregnant woman.

The security service said that Russians were trying bribe the border control so that to organize crossing of the border with Finland for migrants from Arabic countries. The detained were transferred to St. Petersburg’s investigative authorities for further procedures.

"As a rule, migrants are unaware of Russian laws related to border crossing and to responsibilities for breaching the regulations," the security service said. "Thus, criminals are using their ignorance and promise support in getting into the EU countries in exchange for certain monetary compensations."
