The Russian Army Railroad Corps will launch the construction of a railroad between the Druzhnoye train station to Chkalovsk airport in the Kaliningrad Region in 2017, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov told journalists after a ceremony of awarding troops with the Railroad Corps for their personal contribution to the building of a railroad bypassing Ukraine.
"The defense minister has approved the target for 2017. Under the plan, the Railroad Corps will begin to build a railroad from the Druzhnoye train station to newly built Chkalovsk airport in the Kaliningrad Region in addition to the construction of the bypass railroad around Ukraine," the deputy defense minister said.
Bulgakov also said the military railroad builders would "build as many as 25 km of railroads on the premises of the newly commissioned missile and ammunition depots in the Western, Central and Eastern Military Districts" in 2017.
