Japan and Russia have agreed to increase fishing quotas in exclusive economic zones of the two countries for 2017, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said on Dec. 3.
The ministry said that the mutual quota for next year will be increased by 2.6 percent to 65,135 tons. According to the ministry, the relevant agreement was signed for two years.
The cost of the Japanese quota also increases in comparison with the current year - from 418.1 million yens ($3.7 million) to 746.5 million yens ($6.6 million). The seafood quota includes pollock, cod, squid and saury, which is especially popular in Japan.
