Moscow commuters treated to a rendition of The Barber of Seville

Anyone who happened to be in the concourse of Moscow’s Leningrad Station on Feb. 23 became an unwitting audience member for a performance of Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville by the choir and soloists of Samara Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet as part of the Golden Mask in the City project.

It is not Samara Theater’s first outing under the project. Last year it performed the finale of Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Snow Maiden at Paveletsky Station.

The idea of the project is to transform any public space—be it a street, park, museum or shop—into a theatrical stage. This year’s Golden Mask in the City program features extracts from plays and shows by participating theaters, plus original street performances.
